Overview

This course provides a pathway into employment or further courses. It includes developing and documenting a Learning Plan and reading and writing texts of limited complexity for personal, community and workplace purposes. Numeracy activities involve money and measurement related to familiar and routine situations.

Fees are dependent on course and state of enrolment.

Funded training is provided to eligible applicants.

VIC – This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Funding. Skills First (VIC) fee $25, concession fee $5. Fees are based on learner’s eligibility to Skills First Funding.

NSW – Fees do not apply to NSW applicants that are eligible for Smart and Skilled (NSW) or ACE (NSW) funding, as this training is subsidised by NSW government.

Course content will be delivered over 6 months

One on one or small group sessions, mixed mode delivery with a self-paced component is the preferred delivery method in order to address the varying learning needs, educational backgrounds, preferred learning styles and constraints of the individual learners in order to build confidence and reengage back into learning.

These sessions are then designed to lead into larger group work. Larger group options are available depending on the learning needs of the individuals.

Training sessions are held on-site at your local Indie College, or at other agreed locations, such as libraries or community centres.

There are a variety of assessment methods used to demonstrate your competence in this qualification they include:

  • Question and answer
  • Projects.
  • Practical task
  • Research tasks

Each site has a team of Coaches who are qualified Trainer and Assessors. You will be assigned a Coach who will support and help you on your learning journey.

Indie College offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
If a student believes that they can demonstrate and have the knowledge or have documentary evidence of prior learning of the competencies of the course in which they are planning on enrolling in, they may make application for RPL

RPL Process

If you wish to apply for recognition of prior learning you should:

Ask the Indie College for the RPL Assessment Tool Kit
Compile a portfolio of evidence to support the RPL
Submit the Assessment Tool Kit and portfolio of evidence to Indie College for assessing
Assessment of your evidence will take place by the trainer and you will receive written notification of the outcome. If found ‘not yet competent’ you may be asked to provide additional documentation to support your application and again you will be notified of the result.
