What is VET in Schools?

Indie College has a partnership with Indie School to deliver Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS). VETiS offers the opportunity for students to work towards achieving a nationally recognised qualification and develop practical skills related to industry, focusing on valuable employability skills, life skills and teamwork. VETiS can contribute towards the completion of the Student’s Secondary Schooling Certificate. All training is delivered by industry experienced Trainer and Assessors, referred to as Coaches.

This pathways qualification provides the foundation skills and knowledge to use basic applied digital technologies in varied contexts. The qualification is designed for those developing the necessary digital and technology skills in preparation for work.

These individuals carry out a range of basic procedural and operational tasks that require digital and technology skills. They perform a range of mainly routine tasks using limited practical skills and knowledge in a defined context. The qualification is suitable for someone generally performing under direct supervision.

Units of study: The qualification is made up of a combination of core and elective units. To achieve this qualification, twelve (12) units must be successfully completed, which includes six (6) core units and six (6) elective units.

ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology

No fees applicable due to Fee for Service with Indie School

Course content will be delivered over 36 weeks.

One on one or small group sessions, mixed mode delivery with a self-paced component is the preferred delivery method in order to address the varying learning needs, educational backgrounds, preferred learning styles and constraints of the individual learners in order to build confidence and reengage back into learning.

These sessions are then designed to lead into larger group work. Larger group options are available depending on the learning needs of the individuals.

Training sessions are held on-site at your local Indie College, or at other agreed locations, such as libraries or community centres. Refer to our Contact page for a list of Indie College sites. 

There are a variety of assessment methods used to demonstrate your competence in this qualification they include:

  • Written questions

  • Product based methods

  • Portfolio

  • Oral questioning

  • Direct observation

Each site has a team of Coaches who are qualified Trainer and Assessors. You will be assigned a Coach who will support and help you on your learning journey.

Indie College offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
If a student believes that they can demonstrate and have the knowledge or have documentary evidence of prior learning of the competencies of the course in which they are planning on enrolling in, they may make application for RPL

RPL Process

If you wish to apply for recognition of prior learning you should:

Ask the Indie College for the RPL Assessment Tool Kit
Compile a portfolio of evidence to support the RPL
Submit the Assessment Tool Kit and portfolio of evidence to Indie College for assessing
Assessment of your evidence will take place by the trainer and you will receive written notification of the outcome. If found ‘not yet competent’ you may be asked to provide additional documentation to support your application and again you will be notified of the result.
